Tharunyata Hetak” held its annual “Carlton Super Sports 2011” press conference at the SEMA auditorium.

The city of Hambanthota awaits the very much anticipated Motor Sports event “Super Sports 2011”.
Tharunyata  Hetak” held its  annual  “Carlton Super Sports 2011” press conference at the SEMA auditorium. In which the Executive Committee Lalith Piyum Perera  (General Secretary  -Tharunyata Hetak), Ronny Ibrahim (Director Sport -Tharunyata Hetak), Janaka Sri Waranasinghe (National Organizer - Tharunyata Hetak), KPHN Serasinghe - Tug of War, Kithali Jayawickreme (Human Resource manager/ Tharunyata Hetak),  Thushal Gunawardena (Water Sports) , Malith Dasanayaka (4x4)
Richard de Zoysa - Rowaaing / moter sport / Triathlon , Amal Suriyage - Mountain Bike Association
Under a concept of the Tharunyata Hetak Chairman /Hambanthota  District Member of Parliament Honourable Namal  Rajapaksa ,The Super Sports 2011 is held for the 5th successful consecutive year  at the Thissamaharamaya  Auto drome on the 28th ,29th and 30th January 2011.


In a continuing effort to provide the viewers with an ultimate Motor Sports Experience the TH team is preparing for yet another spectacular event .The event will open the arena for many Motor sports along with special suprizes. A specialty event will be the open Triathlon which will be held for the first time in Sri Lanka, Giving yet another reason for the Carlton Super Sports 2011 to be a mega success.The event list includes the following events.

In a historical glance at the sports wing of Tharunyata Hetak has conducted tournaments in the sports of Rugby,Basketball,Rowing,Car Races,Marathon,Mountain Biking,Badminton,Foot Ball and Body Building.The special significance is that we have become the number 1 in hosting sports events in Sri Lanka. Our efforts continue and horizons grow as our aim is to help the Sri Lankan youth to travel to the global forum.
The event is open to the public and the entrance is free of charge, most of the competitions are open to the public. We believe that the event will provide economical benefits to the area as it will include stall which will generate income for the public. The experience can be viewed and enjoyed by families which would be a rare opportunity for Hambanthota youth which can only be experienced once year.

Sri Lanka President hands over houses for war heroes

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning (18) participated in a ceremony in Matara to hand over houses built for war heroes.

The President handed over 36 houses built in the Matara and Hambantota districts to war heroes under a project carried out through the Api Wenuwen Api fund.

Symbolizing the occasion, President Rajapaksa handed over the keys of a house to W. L. Ariyadasa of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment.

In addition, keys of houses were handed over to 24 army personnel, 5 Navy personnel and 6 air force personnel by the President at Matara, Deniyaya, Kirilapana Vidyalaya today.

Governor of Southern Province Kumari Balasuriya, Ministers including Dullas Alahapperuma, Secretary of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Commanders of the tri-forces, Police Chief, and other senior government officers were also present.

Europe covered with snow, SriLankan flights to London cancelled

Heavy snow blanketed much of Europe Sunday closing airports, clogging roads and stranding holiday travelers during the busiest weekend.

London's Heathrow Airport stopped accepting arrivals because of heavy snow on its runways and only few departing flights took off as crews worked remove snow and ice on the runways, Associated Press reported.

Press reports said passengers in UK have been forced to sleep overnight in airport terminals around the country as heavy snow continues to cause chaos across Britain's transport networks.

Frankfurt airport cancelled nearly half of its flights and Paris's Charles de Gaulle cut air traffic by a quarter.

Sri Lanka's national carrier SriLankan advised its London-bound passengers to call the airline's 'General and Flight Info' hotlines before leaving for the airport.

The airline announced that two London-bound flights have been cancelled Sunday.

SriLankan passengers scheduled to take flights to London tomorrow can call the hotline at 0197335555 / 0197332377 / 0197332321.

Tax relief for Sri Lanka public officials to import vehicles

Sri Lankan government has decided to grant a 50-70% tax relief for the public officials to import vehicles.

The tax relief is valid for vehicles up to the value of US $ 25,000.

The senior public officials in the executive grade management and administrative services, professionals and the commissioned senior officials of the armed forces are eligible for the tax benefit. They have been categorized under circular numbered 06/2006 as senior public officials.

The tax benefit is valid from today and the circular in this regard has been issued, the Ministry of Finance says
