Europe covered with snow, SriLankan flights to London cancelled

Heavy snow blanketed much of Europe Sunday closing airports, clogging roads and stranding holiday travelers during the busiest weekend.

London's Heathrow Airport stopped accepting arrivals because of heavy snow on its runways and only few departing flights took off as crews worked remove snow and ice on the runways, Associated Press reported.

Press reports said passengers in UK have been forced to sleep overnight in airport terminals around the country as heavy snow continues to cause chaos across Britain's transport networks.

Frankfurt airport cancelled nearly half of its flights and Paris's Charles de Gaulle cut air traffic by a quarter.

Sri Lanka's national carrier SriLankan advised its London-bound passengers to call the airline's 'General and Flight Info' hotlines before leaving for the airport.

The airline announced that two London-bound flights have been cancelled Sunday.

SriLankan passengers scheduled to take flights to London tomorrow can call the hotline at 0197335555 / 0197332377 / 0197332321.
